Do Not Touch Damaged Solar or Electrical Equipment. If you see exposed wiring, broken modules, damaged electrical equipment, signs of burning or arcing, water intrusion near electrical components, or unstable rooftop equipment, keep people away from the area. Shut down equipment only when it can be done safely using normal accessible controls and contact a qualified service provider.

Signs Your Solar System May Need a Post-Storm Inspection

Any of the following after severe weather can indicate that a closer look is warranted.

Loss of monitoring alone does not always prove physical storm damage, and visible damage does not reveal every possible electrical fault. An inspection helps separate communication issues, electrical faults, and physical damage.

What a Storm-Damage Solar Inspection May Include

Depending on the agreed inspection scope, Florida Solar Pro may evaluate:

Concealed damage inside modules, behind flashings, within the roof deck, or inside sealed equipment cannot always be identified during a standard inspection and may require separate evaluation.

Inspection Scope & Limitations

Florida Solar Pro documents observed solar-equipment conditions and diagnostic findings within the agreed inspection scope. A standard solar inspection is not automatically:

Additional structural, roofing, electrical, engineering, utility, manufacturer, or insurance evaluation may be required depending on the findings.

Documenting the Condition of the Solar System

Clear documentation helps the customer understand what was observed and decide on the next step. Within the agreed inspection scope, documentation may include photographs, equipment identification, visible condition notes, inverter or monitoring faults, affected modules or devices, recommended next diagnostic steps, preliminary repair scope, equipment that may require manufacturer review, and reroof or removal/reinstallation considerations.

Florida Solar Pro does not promise that documentation will result in insurance approval or reimbursement.

Storm-Related Production and Monitoring Problems

Storms may coincide with inverter shutdown, microinverter faults, optimizer faults, monitoring loss, gateway communication problems, one or more modules not reporting, or battery and backup alerts. Florida Solar Pro diagnoses supported equipment from major residential brands, including Enphase, SolarEdge, SMA, Fronius, APsystems, Tesla, FranklinWH, and Generac/Pika. Service depends on equipment model, system condition, access, manufacturer support, compatibility, and parts availability.

For in-depth inverter, microinverter, optimizer, and monitoring diagnostics, see our dedicated Solar Inverter Repair & Diagnostics page.

What Happens After the Inspection?

Based on the findings, possible next steps may include:

Repairs, replacement equipment, and additional services are separately quoted and authorized. Not every storm-damaged system can be restored.

Does the Roof Need Repair or Replacement?

When storm damage extends to the roof, the solar array often has to come off before the roofing work can proceed and go back up afterward. Florida Solar Pro coordinates the solar side of that process, including pre-removal inspection, equipment documentation, panel removal, coordination around roofing, evaluation of removed equipment, reinstallation of suitable components, separately authorized damaged or failed equipment, and recommissioning and testing. Manufacturer Warranty, Storm Damage and Installer Workmanship

Manufacturer Warranty

May cover eligible equipment defects under the manufacturer’s written terms. Coverage depends on the equipment serial number, installation date, registration status, ownership documentation, failure type, and current manufacturer terms.

Storm or External Damage

May be excluded from a manufacturer warranty and may require separate evaluation. Storm-related damage is often addressed through the homeowner’s property insurance rather than the equipment manufacturer.

Installer Workmanship Warranty

Is separate from manufacturer coverage and belongs to the contractor that provided it under its written agreement. Florida Solar Pro does not automatically assume another contractor’s workmanship, installation, labor, production, or performance warranty.

Florida Solar Pro

May diagnose the system, document conditions, assist with applicable manufacturer procedures, and perform separately authorized work. Florida Solar Pro does not guarantee manufacturer or insurance approval.

Insurance Decisions Are Made by the Insurer

Florida Solar Pro can provide inspection findings, photographs, and repair proposals within the contracted service scope. Insurance coverage, exclusions, deductibles, depreciation, reimbursement, and claim approval are determined by the customer’s insurer and policy terms. Florida Solar Pro is not acting as the customer’s public adjuster or legal representative.

Original Installer No Longer Available?

Florida Solar Pro can evaluate appropriate existing PV systems regardless of who originally installed them, including systems whose original installer closed, stopped responding, or no longer serves the area. Solar Storm-Damage Questions

Should I have my solar system inspected after a severe storm?

If your area experienced high winds, flying debris, heavy rain, or a utility event and your system shows any change in production, monitoring, or visible equipment condition, a post-storm inspection can document observable conditions and identify whether further diagnostic or repair work is appropriate.

Does a monitoring outage mean the panels were damaged?

Not necessarily. A monitoring outage can be caused by a lost internet connection, a failed gateway, a communication error, or a power issue unrelated to physical panel damage. An inspection helps determine whether the cause is communication, electrical, or physical.

Can a cracked solar panel continue operating?

A cracked module may still produce some power, but cracked or damaged glass can allow moisture intrusion, reduce output, and create a safety concern. Florida Solar Pro documents the condition and explains whether replacement or further evaluation is appropriate.

What should I do if I see exposed solar wiring?

Keep people away from the area, do not touch the wiring, and contact a qualified service provider. Shut down equipment only when it can be done safely using normal accessible controls.

Can Florida Solar Pro inspect a system another company installed?

Yes. Florida Solar Pro can evaluate qualifying existing PV systems regardless of who originally installed them, including systems whose original installer is no longer available.

Can storm-damaged panels be replaced individually?

In some cases a single damaged module can be replaced, depending on equipment compatibility, availability, system design, and the condition of surrounding components. Florida Solar Pro documents the affected equipment and explains the available options.

What happens if the roof also needs replacement?

Roof work may require professional PV panel removal and reinstallation. Florida Solar Pro can coordinate system shutdown, documentation, removal, scheduling around the roofing work, reinstallation of suitable components, and recommissioning.

Does a solar inspection determine insurance coverage?

No. A solar inspection documents observed conditions and diagnostic findings. Insurance coverage, exclusions, deductibles, depreciation, reimbursement, and claim approval are determined by the customer’s insurer and policy terms.

Is storm damage covered by the equipment manufacturer?

Manufacturer warranties may cover eligible equipment defects under the manufacturer’s written terms, but storm or external damage may be excluded and may require separate evaluation. Coverage depends on the manufacturer’s program and terms.

Can Florida Solar Pro help document visible system damage?

Yes. Within the agreed inspection scope, Florida Solar Pro can provide photographs, equipment identification, visible condition notes, and a written summary of observed conditions that the customer may share with their insurer.

Can inverter or microinverter faults appear after a storm?

Yes. Storms can coincide with inverter shutdown, microinverter or optimizer faults, monitoring loss, gateway communication problems, or battery alerts. Florida Solar Pro diagnoses supported equipment and explains available next steps.

Does Florida Solar Pro assume the original installer’s warranty?

No. Florida Solar Pro does not automatically assume another contractor’s workmanship, installation, labor, production, or performance warranty. Service does not transfer or recreate the original installer’s warranty.

Concerned About Your Solar System After a Storm?

Florida Solar Pro can inspect visible system conditions, diagnose active faults, document findings, and provide separately authorized repair, equipment-replacement, or reroof coordination options.
