A Pool Heating System Should Be Sized — Not Guessed
The most common reason a pool-heating system disappoints a homeowner is that the system was never properly matched to the pool. We evaluate pool size, desired temperature, available roof area, orientation, shading, and existing circulation equipment before recommending a system. System sizing starts with the pool, not the roof. Collector area is planned around pool surface area, desired swimming season, usable roof area, roof orientation, shading, plumbing distance, water flow, and heating performance goals.
Heliocol & SunStar Solar Pool Heating Design
As an authorized dealer for both brands, we design the collector array around the pool and the usable roof area, then build the supporting plumbing and controls around that array so the whole loop runs as one system. We can design systems with future expansion in mind, though we do not guarantee every system can later be expanded without changes to the equipment pad.
Gulfstream Heat Pumps & Hybrid Systems
We size and install Gulfstream pool heat pumps and design hybrid solar + heat pump systems. Heat pump selection considers pool size, desired water temperature, desired swimming season, equipment location, existing circulation and plumbing, available electrical service, expected use, and whether supplemental heating is also planned. A combined system can use Heliocol or SunStar rooftop collectors for solar contribution and a Gulfstream heat pump for supplemental heating. The two sources have to be plumbed and controlled together as one system. We do not promise exact temperatures without a project-specific evaluation.
Equipment-Pad Integration & Pool Automation
The circulation pump has to move water through the collectors and, if present, the heat pump at the right flow rate. A pump that is undersized, aging, or paired with restricted plumbing can limit heating performance. We review the equipment pad as part of the design. Pool automation can operate the automatic solar valve, actuator, and controller, and modern Gulfstream heat pumps integrate with major pool automation systems.
Existing System Modernization & Reroof Planning
An existing solar pool heating system can often be expanded instead of replaced, depending on the condition of the existing collectors, available roof area, circulation equipment, and plumbing. We evaluate existing systems regardless of the original installer and recommend upgrades such as collector replacement, controls, valves, actuators, or adding a Gulfstream heat pump. If a reroof is expected, the system design can account for how collectors will be removed and reinstalled. Florida Solar Pro does not automatically assume or inherit another contractor’s workmanship or installation warranty.

Pembroke Pines Pool Heating FAQ
How is a solar pool heating system sized?
System sizing starts with the pool, not the roof. We look at pool size and surface area, the temperature you want, how long you want to extend your swimming season, available roof area, orientation, shading, your existing circulation equipment, plumbing, and the control strategy you want to use. Collector area is then planned around those factors so the array matches the actual heating demand rather than simply filling the roof.
How do you determine how much solar collector area a pool needs?
Collector area is planned from more than a panel count. We consider usable roof area, individual collector dimensions, roof orientation, shading, the plumbing distance from the equipment pad to the roof, water flow through the collector loop, pool surface area, and the heating performance you are aiming for. The collector layout is designed as part of the complete hydraulic system, not as an isolated number of panels.
Can I add more Heliocol collectors later?
Sometimes. Whether a Heliocol array can be expanded later depends on the usable roof area left available, the capacity of the circulation pump and plumbing, the existing valves and controls, and the condition of the current collectors. We can design the original system with future expansion in mind, but we do not guarantee that every system can later be expanded without changes to the equipment pad.
Can a SunStar system be designed for future expansion?
Yes. When a homeowner expects to add heating capacity later, we can plan the SunStar layout, plumbing, and controls so that adding collector area or supplemental heat is more straightforward down the road. The existing circulation equipment and available roof area still have to support the future addition, so we evaluate those limits during the original design.
How do I know what size Gulfstream heat pump my pool needs?
Heat pump selection should consider pool size, desired water temperature, desired swimming season, equipment location, existing circulation and plumbing, available electrical service, expected use, and whether supplemental heating is also planned. Selecting a unit from a single number can overlook how the entire pool system operates, so we evaluate the project before recommending a specific Gulfstream model.
Does my existing pool pump affect the heating system?
It can. The circulation pump has to move water through the collectors and, if present, the heat pump at the right flow rate. A pump that is undersized, aging, or paired with restricted plumbing can limit heating performance even when the collectors or heat pump are correctly sized. We review the equipment pad as part of the design rather than treating the pump as separate from the heating system.
Can pool automation control solar heating?
Yes. Pool automation can operate the automatic solar valve, actuator, and controller so the solar pool heating system runs when conditions are favorable and stops when they are not. When we design a new system we plan the controls and sensors alongside the collector layout so automation can manage the heating loop reliably.
Can pool automation work with a heat pump?
Yes. Modern Gulfstream heat pumps integrate with major pool automation systems, which lets the controls coordinate heat pump operation with the rest of the pool equipment. In a hybrid setup, automation can also help coordinate the solar collectors and the heat pump so each source runs when it makes sense.
Can Heliocol or SunStar be combined with a Gulfstream heat pump?
Yes. A combined system can use Heliocol or SunStar rooftop collectors for solar contribution and a Gulfstream heat pump for supplemental heating when solar conditions are limited or more direct temperature control is desired. The two sources have to be plumbed and controlled together as one system, which is why we design the integration rather than simply adding components.
Should I plan differently if I expect to replace my roof in a few years?
It is worth discussing. If a reroof is expected in the foreseeable future, the system design can account for how the collectors will be removed, what condition they may be in, how roof work will be scheduled, and whether reinstallation or a redesign makes more sense at that time. Planning ahead can make the reroof project cleaner, though it does not guarantee every collector can be reused.
Can an existing solar pool heating system be expanded instead of replaced?
Often yes, depending on the condition of the existing collectors, the available roof area, the circulation equipment, and the plumbing. We evaluate the current system before recommending whether to add collector area, modernize components, or plan a redesign. We do not assume expansion is always possible without reviewing the equipment pad.
Can Florida Solar Pro modernize a system installed by another contractor?
Yes. We evaluate existing Heliocol, SunStar, and combined pool-heating systems regardless of the original installer and recommend upgrades such as collector replacement, controls, valves, actuators, or adding a Gulfstream heat pump. We do not automatically assume or inherit another contractor’s workmanship or installation warranty.
Does Florida Solar Pro service Gulfstream heat pumps?
Yes. We service existing Gulfstream pool heat pumps, including controls, plumbing, and integration with the rest of the pool equipment. Service work is evaluated on site based on the condition of the unit and the surrounding system.
Does Florida Solar Pro provide Heliocol and SunStar manufacturer warranty assistance?
Yes. Within our authorized service territory we provide authorized assistance with applicable Heliocol and SunStar manufacturer/factory warranty matters. Manufacturer warranty coverage is separate from the original contractor’s workmanship or installation warranty, which Florida Solar Pro does not automatically assume. Warranty approval is determined by the manufacturer and is not guaranteed.
