Is Your Heliocol System Working as Well as It Should?
Not every Heliocol service call starts with a leak. Plenty of Parkland homeowners call us because their system still runs but the pool just is not getting as warm as it used to. We diagnose the complete system before recommending any change.
- Pool Warms Slower Than Expected — slow warm-up can come from reduced collector output, weak flow through the array, a valve that is not fully diverting water to the roof, or controls that are not calling for heat at the right times.
- Solar Runs but Temperature Gain Is Limited — the controller may show solar is active while the pool barely climbs. That gap usually points to water not reaching the collectors, flow moving the wrong direction, a partially closed or stuck valve, or collectors that have lost efficiency from age.
- Uneven Flow Across the Array — when part of the collector array appears to stay cool while other panels heat up, water may not be distributing evenly across the bank.
- Controls Activate Inconsistently — a system that engages on some sunny days but not others often has a controls or sensor issue rather than a collector problem.
- Solar Shuts Off Unexpectedly — a Heliocol system that drops out mid-cycle may be responding to a false sensor reading, a controller fault, or a valve that rotates back on its own.
- System Worked Better in the Past — gradual decline can come from collector aging, a slow valve failure, sensor drift, a pump that has weakened, or a filter that is restricting flow.
Performance causes we evaluate include collector condition, available collector area, water flow through the array, valve operation, controller settings, roof and water sensors, rooftop plumbing, and original system design.
System Expansion & Controls Modernization
Some existing Heliocol systems are good candidates for additional collector area. Expansion depends on available roof area, orientation & shading, existing collector condition, plumbing capacity, pump performance, current controls, compatibility, and desired heating goals. We also modernize controls, valves, actuators, and sensors to improve how existing equipment operates without a full replacement. Control components we service include automatic solar valves, valve actuators, solar controllers, roof temperature sensors, and pool water temperature sensors.
Heliocol + Gulfstream Hybrid Pool Heating
A Gulfstream heat pump can be paired with Heliocol solar pool heating for supplemental heating when sunlight is limited. Hybrid use cases include extending usable swimming conditions, faster recovery after cooler weather, periods of limited solar gain, and more consistent water temperature. A hybrid setup is not required for every pool, so we evaluate your usage and goals before recommending one.
Reroof Planning & Reinstallation
Coordinate the solar removal before roofing work begins, not after. Reroof steps: pre-removal inspection of the existing Heliocol system, documenting collector and component condition, identifying obviously failed equipment beforehand, coordinated collector removal before roofing begins, protecting reusable equipment during the roofing work, evaluating equipment condition before reinstall, reinstalling suitable existing components, and testing system operation after reinstallation. Existing components are inspected after removal, and failed, damaged, or unsuitable equipment may require separately authorized replacement.
Manufacturer Warranty Assistance
Within our authorized territory, Florida Solar Pro provides authorized assistance with applicable Heliocol manufacturer warranty matters, including system inspection, equipment documentation, identifying possible manufacturer-related conditions, assisting with applicable manufacturer procedures, and authorized service where appropriate. Warranty eligibility and approval are determined by the applicable manufacturer warranty terms and are not guaranteed. The equipment manufacturer’s warranty covers qualifying defects in the collector or factory components, while the original installer’s workmanship warranty covered the installation labor. These are separate obligations, and Florida Solar Pro does not automatically inherit or assume another contractor’s workmanship warranty.

Parkland Heliocol Service FAQ
Can I add more Heliocol collectors to my existing system?
Sometimes. Adding collector area depends on available unshaded roof space with the right orientation, the condition of your existing collectors, whether your plumbing and pump can support the added flow, and whether your current controls can manage the larger array. We evaluate the complete hydraulic and heating system before recommending expansion, and we do not guarantee that every property can support additional collectors.
How do I know if my Heliocol system is undersized or just not working correctly?
You usually cannot tell from the pool deck alone. A system that warms slowly could be undersized for the pool and climate, or it could have a flow problem, a stuck valve, a failed sensor, or collectors that have lost efficiency. We measure actual temperature gain and flow against what the system was designed to deliver before concluding whether the issue is size or condition.
Can an older Heliocol system be upgraded without replacing everything?
Often yes. When the collectors are still serviceable, upgrading the controls, replacing a failed actuator, swapping a sticking solar valve, or correcting a flow problem can noticeably improve operation without replacing the array. We identify which parts of the system still work before recommending what to change.
What does a solar pool heating controller actually control?
The controller compares the temperature of the roof sensor against the pool water sensor and your setpoint, then tells the solar valve whether to send water up to the collectors or back to the pool. It does not heat the water directly; it decides when the collectors should be active. A controller that misreads either sensor can keep the system from running when it should.
Can a failed actuator make my Heliocol system stop heating?
Yes. The actuator is the motor that turns the solar valve. If it fails from age or water intrusion, the valve can stay stuck on pool return even while the controller calls for solar, so water never reaches the roof. We confirm the controller signal is reaching the actuator and that the actuator actually moves the valve before replacing it.
Why does my solar system run but the pool still warms slowly?
The controller showing “solar on” does not guarantee water is reaching the collectors. A valve stuck partway, reversed flow, low flow from a clogged filter or weak pump, or collectors that have lost efficiency can all produce a running system with little temperature gain. We verify flow direction and volume at the array, not just the controller display.
Can my existing Heliocol system work with a Gulfstream heat pump?
Yes. Heliocol solar can provide solar-based daytime heating while a Gulfstream heat pump adds supplemental heat when solar gain is limited, faster recovery is wanted, or more consistent temperature control is the goal. A hybrid setup is not required for every pool, so we evaluate your usage and heating goals before recommending one.
Should I upgrade my solar controls when replacing collectors?
It depends on what we find. If the existing valve, actuator, controller, and sensors are still reliable, there may be no reason to replace them with the collectors. If the controls are aging or failing, upgrading them at the same time as the collector work can avoid a second service visit and improve how the new array performs. We assess the control side alongside the collectors.
Can Florida Solar Pro service a Heliocol system another company installed?
Yes. We inspect, diagnose, and service existing Heliocol systems in Parkland regardless of which contractor originally installed them. Service and repair by Florida Solar Pro does not mean we assume the original contractor’s workmanship warranty; we evaluate the system as it exists today and give you honest options.
How should I plan for Heliocol removal before replacing my roof?
Coordinate the solar removal before roofing work begins, not after. We inspect and document the existing system first, identify any obviously failed equipment, then remove the collectors so your roofer can work safely. After the roof is complete we evaluate the equipment, reinstall suitable components, and test operation. Planning ahead avoids rushed decisions during the roofing schedule.
Can existing collectors be reused after reroofing?
Often yes, but not always. Existing components are inspected after removal, and failed, damaged, or unsuitable equipment may require separately authorized replacement. Existing equipment condition determines whether all components are suitable for reuse, and we will not reinstall equipment that is not safe or suitable.
When does adding collectors make more sense than replacing the system?
Adding collector area can make sense when the existing collectors are still healthy, there is suitable roof space available, and your heating goals call for more capacity rather than a fresh start. When the array is broadly deteriorated or the system design no longer fits your goals, replacement may be the better conversation. We lay out both options honestly.
Does Florida Solar Pro assist with Heliocol manufacturer warranty matters?
Within our authorized territory, Florida Solar Pro provides authorized assistance with applicable Heliocol manufacturer/factory warranty matters, including inspection, documentation, and authorized service where appropriate. Warranty eligibility and approval are determined by the applicable manufacturer warranty terms and are not guaranteed.
Is the manufacturer’s warranty different from the original installer’s workmanship warranty?
Yes. The equipment manufacturer’s warranty covers qualifying defects in the collector or factory components, while the original installer’s workmanship warranty covered the installation labor. These are separate obligations, and Florida Solar Pro does not automatically inherit or assume another contractor’s workmanship warranty.
