Where Is the Problem Actually Coming From?
A solar pool heating system can show several different symptoms, and the symptom you notice from the pool deck does not always point to the part that actually failed. We diagnose the complete system before recommending any repair. Diagnostic symptoms include water visible on the roof near the array, dripping that appears only when solar turns on, air bubbles entering the pool when solar activates, poor heating, a solar valve that does not change position, a controller showing solar operation without noticeable heating, and unusual flow behavior or weak return at the pool.
System components we evaluate: collectors (tube cracks, header splits, surface leaks), collector connections (grommets, clamps, couplings), headers, roof plumbing, valves, actuators, sensors, controllers, vacuum relief components, and circulation and flow.
Finding the Source of a Leak & Air Bubbles
We pressurize the array and trace the water to its actual source rather than assuming the first wet collector is the culprit. A leak can originate in a collector tube, a header, a collector-to-collector connection, the supply or return plumbing, a fitting, or a valve. A leak that appears only while the system is running usually means water is escaping under pressure somewhere in the pressurized solar path. Air at the returns when solar activates can be tied to system flow, plumbing, valve operation, or vacuum-relief conditions rather than a collector failure.
Solar System Not Heating — No Leak Required
A system can run with no visible leak and still add little heat. Causes include insufficient flow through collectors (clogged filter, aging pump, restricted line), incorrect valve position, failed actuator, controller issue, sensor issue, collector condition, available solar gain, and overall system configuration. We verify what is actually happening at the roof, not just what the controller display claims.
Heliocol & SunStar Service, Reroof R&R
Florida Solar Pro is an authorized Heliocol and SunStar dealer and service provider. Heliocol services include collector diagnostics, leak isolation, tube and header issues, collector replacement, valves and actuators, controllers and sensors, flow problems, reroof removal and reinstallation, and applicable manufacturer warranty assistance. SunStar services include collector condition evaluation, leak isolation, plumbing and fittings, flow diagnostics, controls, collector replacement, reroof removal and reinstallation, and applicable manufacturer support.
Pre-reroof steps: inspect existing equipment, document visible condition, identify obvious failed components, remove appropriate equipment, allow roofing work to proceed, reevaluate equipment before reinstall, replace separately authorized failed components, reinstall suitable equipment, and test system operation. Post-roof-work checks evaluate collector position and condition, plumbing, connections, water flow, valve operation, control operation, and visible equipment damage.
Manufacturer Warranty Assistance
Within our authorized territory, Florida Solar Pro provides authorized assistance with applicable Heliocol and SunStar manufacturer warranty matters. Manufacturer warranty coverage is separate from the original installer’s workmanship warranty, and warranty eligibility and approval are determined by the manufacturer’s applicable terms and are not guaranteed. Florida Solar Pro does not automatically assume another contractor’s workmanship warranty.

Deerfield Beach Solar Pool Heating Service FAQ
How do you find where a solar pool heating system is leaking?
We pressurize the array and trace the water to its actual source rather than assuming the first wet collector is the culprit. A leak can originate in a collector tube, a header, a collector-to-collector connection, the supply or return plumbing, a fitting, or a valve — and each points to a different repair. Isolating the exact source first is what determines whether the right fix is a repair, a component replacement, or a collector replacement.
Why does my roof only leak when the solar pool heater is running?
Because the collectors and rooftop plumbing are only pressurized while the pump sends water to the roof. A cracked tube, a split header, a failed connection, or a weeping fitting can sit dry when the system is off and only show water when the solar loop turns on. That timing is actually useful diagnostic information — it tells us the leak is in the pressurized solar path rather than in the roof itself.
Why do air bubbles enter my pool when solar turns on?
Air at the returns when solar activates can be tied to system flow, plumbing, valve operation, or vacuum-relief conditions rather than a collector failure. A solar valve sitting partially open, a loose suction-side fitting, a stuck vacuum relief valve, or low flow from a clogged filter can all leave air in the collector loop. We evaluate the system as a whole before assuming the collectors are the problem.
Can a vacuum relief problem affect solar pool heating operation?
Yes. The vacuum relief valve controls how the collector array fills and drains. If it sticks open or fails to seal, air can persist in the loop and reduce heating; if it sticks closed, the array may not drain properly, which can stress plumbing and collectors. Vacuum relief function is checked as part of a full diagnostic, not skipped.
Why does my controller say solar is on when the pool is not getting warmer?
Because the controller only reports what it is asking the system to do — it does not confirm that water is actually reaching the collectors or that the collectors are in good condition. A valve stuck on pool return, a failed actuator, a misread sensor, low flow, or degraded collectors can all produce a controller that says solar is on while the pool stays cool. We verify what is actually happening at the roof, not just what the display claims.
Can a bad valve or actuator reduce flow through roof collectors?
Yes. The automatic solar valve decides whether water is sent to the roof or returned straight to the pool. A valve stuck on pool return, sitting halfway, or rotating slowly because of a failed actuator can keep the collectors dry or only partially fed. We test valve position and actuator response before looking at the panels themselves.
Should my solar pool system be inspected after roofing work?
If roof work has already occurred around an existing solar pool heating system and something is no longer operating correctly, yes — a post-roof-work check makes sense. We evaluate collector position and condition, plumbing, connections, water flow, valve operation, control operation, and visible equipment damage. The goal is to determine what changed before any repair is recommended, rather than guessing at the cause.
How do you decide which solar collectors can be reused after a reroof?
Each collector is evaluated for tube integrity, header condition, previous repairs, physical damage, compatibility, and the condition of the surrounding plumbing and array. Reuse is not automatic in either direction — a reroof does not mean every collector should be thrown away, and it also does not mean every collector should go back up. The decision is based on what the equipment actually looks like, not on a blanket rule.
Should damaged collectors be identified before the roofing contractor starts?
It is helpful. Documenting condition before removal gives a clear picture of what was already failing versus what may have occurred during the roofing work, and it makes the reuse decision cleaner once the equipment is off the roof. We inspect and document the system before removal so there are no surprises after the new roof is finished.
Can Florida Solar Pro service both Heliocol and SunStar systems in Deerfield Beach?
Yes. Florida Solar Pro is an authorized Heliocol and SunStar dealer and service provider and services existing Heliocol and SunStar solar pool heating systems in Deerfield Beach, including systems originally installed by another contractor.
Can you work on a solar pool heating system another contractor installed?
Yes. We inspect, diagnose, and service existing Heliocol and SunStar systems in Deerfield Beach regardless of who originally installed them. Servicing the system does not transfer the original contractor’s workmanship warranty to Florida Solar Pro; we evaluate the system as it exists today and give you honest options.
Does Florida Solar Pro provide manufacturer warranty assistance?
Within our authorized territory, Florida Solar Pro provides authorized assistance with applicable Heliocol and SunStar manufacturer/factory warranty matters, which may include inspection, documentation, and authorized service where appropriate. Manufacturer warranty coverage is separate from the original installer’s workmanship warranty, and warranty eligibility and approval are determined by the manufacturer’s applicable terms and are not guaranteed.
When does a diagnostic inspection indicate that replacement may make more sense than repair?
When the inspection reveals widespread collector deterioration, repeated failures across multiple components, significant physical damage, incompatible components, or major system redesign needs that a targeted repair cannot solve. In those cases we discuss replacement options honestly — but we do not recommend a full replacement without an actual inspection, and we will say plainly when a repair or partial replacement still makes sense.
