How Solar Pool Heating Works
Solar pool heating works by circulating pool water through roof-mounted solar collectors. While the sun shines, solar energy warms the water inside the collectors before it returns to the pool. A controller compares the collector temperature to the pool water and only runs the system when heating is available. Because it uses the sun’s energy and your existing pool pump, solar pool heating is one of the most cost-effective ways to extend your Florida swimming season.
System performance depends on pool size, collector area, roof orientation, shade, available sunlight, weather, wind exposure, desired temperature, and pool-cover use. We do not make guaranteed temperature claims. Every roof and pool is different, so we evaluate your specific setup before recommending a system.

Your Original Installer Is Gone. Your Solar Pool System Still Needs Service.
Many solar pool heating systems in Florida were installed by companies that have since closed or left the market. Florida Solar Pro can inspect, diagnose, and repair existing Heliocol, SunStar, and other solar pool heating systems even when the original installer is no longer available. We do not say or imply that Florida Solar Pro inherits the original contractor’s workmanship warranty. We evaluate the system as it exists today and provide honest repair and service options.
Heliocol & SunStar Manufacturer Warranty Assistance
Florida Solar Pro provides authorized assistance with applicable Heliocol and SunStar manufacturer/factory warranty matters within our authorized service territory. We may inspect equipment, document system condition, identify potential manufacturer warranty issues, assist with applicable manufacturer procedures, and perform authorized service where appropriate. Manufacturer warranty coverage is separate from any workmanship or installation warranty originally provided by another contractor. Florida Solar Pro does not automatically assume or inherit another contractor’s installer warranty. Warranty approval is determined by the manufacturer and is not guaranteed.
Solar Pool Heating Removal & Reinstallation
Florida Solar Pro can remove rooftop solar pool collectors when reroofing is required and reinstall the system afterward when appropriate. Existing equipment is evaluated after removal, and damaged, failed, or unsuitable components may require separately authorized replacement. We do not promise that all existing collectors can always be reused.
Solar Pool Heating + Gulfstream Heat Pump
Homeowners may combine solar pool heating with a Gulfstream heat pump when supplemental heating or more consistent temperature control is desired. This combination can help with reduced sunlight, faster temperature recovery, shoulder-season swimming, and more consistent pool temperature. Not every customer needs both systems. We evaluate your pool, usage, and goals before recommending a combined setup. See our Gulfstream Pool Heat Pump Installation & Service page.
Solar Pool Heating Service Territory
Florida Solar Pro’s authorized Heliocol and SunStar sales and service territory extends from Brevard County south through Miami-Dade County, and west through Okeechobee and Sebring / Highlands County. Frequently Asked Questions
How does solar pool heating work?
Pool water is circulated through roof-mounted solar collectors. While the sun shines and the collectors are warmer than the pool water, a controller sends water up to the roof, where solar energy warms it before it returns to the pool. The system uses your existing pool pump and the sun’s energy instead of burning gas or running an electric heater full time.
How warm can solar pool heating make my pool?
Solar pool heating can meaningfully extend your Florida swimming season, but we do not make guaranteed temperature claims. Actual performance depends on collector area, roof orientation, shade, available sunlight, weather, wind exposure, desired temperature, and pool-cover use.
How many solar pool collectors do I need?
Collector sizing depends on your pool surface area, roof orientation, available roof space, shade, and how warm you want to swim. A typical Florida system uses a collector area equal to a significant percentage of the pool surface area, but the exact number is determined during an on-site evaluation.
Who repairs Heliocol pool solar systems?
Florida Solar Pro is an authorized Heliocol dealer and service provider and repairs Heliocol pool solar systems throughout our authorized Florida territory, including systems installed by other contractors.
Can Florida Solar Pro repair an existing Heliocol system?
Yes. As an authorized Heliocol dealer and service provider, we repair existing Heliocol systems including leaking or damaged collectors, header and connection leaks, plumbing, valves, actuators, controllers, and sensors.
Can Florida Solar Pro repair an existing SunStar system?
Yes. As an authorized SunStar dealer and service provider, we service existing SunStar systems including collector replacement, controls, valves, actuators, sensors, plumbing repair, and reroof removal and reinstallation.
Do you service solar pool systems installed by another contractor?
Yes. We can inspect, diagnose, and repair existing Heliocol, SunStar, and other solar pool heating systems even when the original installer is no longer available. We do not assume another contractor’s workmanship warranty.
Can a leaking solar pool collector be repaired?
Often yes, depending on where the leak is. Tube, header, and connection leaks can frequently be repaired, while a badly degraded or split collector may need replacement. We inspect the collector under pressure before recommending repair or replacement, and we do not promise that every damaged collector can be repaired.
Can individual collectors be replaced?
Yes. In many systems a single damaged or leaking collector can be replaced without replacing the entire array, depending on the system design and the condition of the surrounding components.
Why is air entering my pool when the solar system turns on?
Bubbles in the return usually point to a suction-side air leak, a failing vacuum relief valve, or an air lock in the collector loop. We inspect the suction plumbing, valve operation, and relief valve to locate the source and stop air from entering the system.
Why isn’t my solar pool heater getting warm?
Common causes include a controller that never calls for heat, a solar valve stuck on pool return, reversed flow, low flow from a clogged filter or weak pump, insufficient collector area, or heavy shade. We verify sensor readings, valve actuation, flow direction, and circulation before recommending a fix.
Can solar pool collectors be removed for a new roof?
Yes. Florida Solar Pro can remove solar pool heating collectors and associated rooftop components when reroofing is required so your roofer can work safely.
Can my existing collectors be reinstalled after reroofing?
Often yes, but not always. Existing components are inspected after removal, and failed, damaged, or unsuitable equipment may require separately authorized replacement. We do not promise that every existing collector can always be reused.
What happens if my original installer went out of business?
Florida Solar Pro can inspect, diagnose, and repair your existing system and assist with applicable manufacturer warranty procedures. We do not automatically assume or inherit another contractor’s installer workmanship warranty.
Does Florida Solar Pro provide Heliocol manufacturer warranty assistance?
Yes. Within our authorized service territory we provide authorized assistance with applicable Heliocol manufacturer/factory warranty matters, including inspection, documentation, and authorized service where appropriate. Warranty approval is determined by the manufacturer and is not guaranteed.
Does Florida Solar Pro provide SunStar manufacturer warranty assistance?
Yes. Within our authorized service territory we provide authorized assistance with applicable SunStar manufacturer/factory warranty matters. Warranty approval is determined by the manufacturer and is not guaranteed.
Is manufacturer warranty coverage the same as an installer workmanship warranty?
No. Manufacturer warranty coverage is separate from any workmanship or installation warranty originally provided by another contractor. Florida Solar Pro does not automatically assume or inherit another contractor’s installer warranty.
Can solar pool heating be combined with a Gulfstream heat pump?
Yes. Some homeowners use solar pool heating as the primary heat source and a Gulfstream heat pump as supplemental heating when sunlight is limited, faster recovery is desired, or more consistent temperature control is needed. This combination is not right for every pool, so we evaluate your usage and goals before recommending it.
