POOL HEAT PUMPS

Pool Heat Pump Installation, Replacement & Service

Pool heat pump installed at a Florida pool equipment pad by Florida Solar Pro

Florida Solar Pro installs, replaces, and services pool heat pumps for homeowners who want powered pool heating, direct temperature control, or supplemental heating alongside a Heliocol or SunStar solar pool heating system.

Powered Pool Heating With Direct Temperature Control

A pool heat pump uses electricity to move available heat from the surrounding air into the circulating pool water. Unlike rooftop solar pool collectors, a heat pump provides more direct powered heating and independent temperature control. Unlike a gas pool heater, it does not burn fuel to generate heat.

Performance may depend on pool size, desired water temperature, outdoor conditions, circulation and water flow, equipment sizing, pool-cover use, equipment condition, and operating schedule. We do not guarantee exact heating time, exact water temperature, exact operating cost, or year-round performance under all conditions.

What to prepare for a pool heat pump estimate

A useful estimate starts with your pool, your current equipment and how you want to use the water. When contacting Florida Solar Pro, have your approximate pool dimensions, preferred swimming temperature and existing heater details ready. Mention whether you use a pool cover, have a connected spa or already have solar pool heating.

For an existing Gulfstream or other pool heat pump, a clear photograph of the accessible equipment label can help identify the model. A photograph of the equipment area can also help explain the layout. Only take photographs from a safe, accessible position without removing covers.

Ask what the proposed installation includes, such as removal of the old heater, plumbing connections, controls and any separately required electrical work. Comparing the scope is just as important as comparing the equipment price.

Repair the existing heater or replace it?

A heater that stops operating should be assessed before replacement is assumed. Record the exact display message, when the problem began and whether the equipment runs intermittently or does not start at all.

Repair-versus-replacement decisions should consider the diagnosed fault, equipment condition, parts availability, applicable warranty and the cost of the proposed work. An error message helps start the investigation; it is not a complete diagnosis by itself.

When requesting service, explain any recent changes to the pool pump, filter, plumbing or controls. Do not open electrical compartments, bypass safety devices or attempt refrigerant work. Contact Florida Solar Pro to discuss a diagnostic appointment and the options for your existing system.

Solar Pool Heating, a Pool Heat Pump, or Both?

Solar pool heating uses rooftop collectors and available solar energy. A pool heat pump uses electricity to move heat into the pool and provides more direct powered heating. A hybrid system combines solar contribution with supplemental heat-pump capability.

The appropriate approach depends on the property, equipment, roof area, electrical service, heating goals, and homeowner preferences. We do not declare one option universally best. For a complete brand-specific resource, see our Gulfstream Pool Heat Pump Installation page.

The existing collectors, plumbing and controls should be evaluated before choosing the combination. Compatibility and operating settings matter; adding equipment alone does not guarantee a particular water temperature or heating schedule. For an existing SunStar system, explore our SunStar solar pool heating service before deciding whether to repair the solar equipment, add a heat pump or replace part of the system.
