SunStar Frequently Asked Questions
Who repairs SunStar solar pool heating systems?
Florida Solar Pro is an authorized SunStar dealer and service provider and repairs SunStar solar pool heating systems throughout our authorized Florida territory, including systems installed by other contractors.
Does Florida Solar Pro service SunStar systems installed by another contractor?
Yes. We inspect, diagnose, and service existing SunStar systems even when the original installer is no longer available. We do not automatically assume or inherit another contractor’s workmanship or installation warranty.
Can a leaking SunStar collector be repaired?
Sometimes. The correct recommendation depends on leak location, collector age, extent of damage, and the condition of adjacent collectors, headers, and connections. Some issues may be repairable while severely damaged or deteriorated collectors may require replacement. We do not promise that every collector can be repaired.
Can individual SunStar collectors be replaced?
Yes. In many SunStar systems a single damaged or leaking collector can be replaced without replacing the entire array, depending on the system design and the condition of the surrounding components.
Why is my SunStar system leaking?
Common causes include cracked tubes, split headers, failed collector connections, aged grommets or clamps, rooftop plumbing leaks, or storm damage. We pressurize the system and isolate the exact source before recommending a repair.
Why is air entering my pool when solar turns on?
Bubbles in the return usually point to a suction-side air leak, a failing vacuum relief valve, or an air lock in the SunStar collector loop. We inspect the suction plumbing, valve operation, and relief valve to locate the source and stop air from entering the system.
Why isn’t my SunStar system heating the pool?
Common causes include a controller that never calls for heat, a solar valve stuck on pool return, reversed flow, low flow from a clogged filter or weak pump, insufficient collector area, or heavy shade. We verify sensor readings, valve actuation, flow direction, and circulation before recommending a fix.
Can SunStar collectors be removed for a reroof?
Yes. Florida Solar Pro can remove SunStar solar pool heating collectors and associated rooftop components when reroofing is required so your roofer can work safely.
Can existing SunStar collectors be reinstalled?
Often yes, but not always. Existing components are inspected after removal, and failed, damaged, or unsuitable equipment may require separately authorized replacement. We do not guarantee that every existing collector can be reused.
What happens if my original SunStar installer went out of business?
Florida Solar Pro can inspect, diagnose, and service your existing SunStar system and assist with applicable manufacturer warranty procedures. We do not automatically assume or inherit another contractor’s installer workmanship warranty.
Does Florida Solar Pro provide SunStar manufacturer warranty assistance?
Yes. Within our authorized service territory we provide authorized assistance with applicable SunStar manufacturer/factory warranty matters, including inspection, documentation, and authorized service where appropriate. Warranty approval is determined by the manufacturer and is not guaranteed.
Is manufacturer warranty coverage the same as installer workmanship warranty?
No. Manufacturer warranty coverage is separate from any workmanship or installation warranty originally provided by another contractor. Florida Solar Pro does not automatically assume or inherit another contractor’s installer warranty.
Can SunStar solar pool heating be combined with a Gulfstream heat pump?
Yes. Some homeowners use SunStar solar pool heating as the primary heat source and a Gulfstream heat pump as supplemental heating when sunlight is limited, faster recovery is desired, or more consistent temperature control is needed. This combination is not right for every pool, so we evaluate your usage and goals before recommending it.
